Grand Turk

The nation’s capital, Grand Turk is an easy 25-minute flight from Providenciales.

Long held by some to be the landfall site in the New World of Christopher Columbus, the island has a long and colorful history. Walking down the main street of Cockburn Town takes you past some of the country’s best-preserved examples of eighteenth and nineteenth century architecture. The Turks and Caicos National Museum is well-curated and has a fascinating display and exploration of the country’s history.

Driving up to explore the 1852 lighthouse you’ll see evidence of the former Cold-War base for US Navy & Air Force.

Long renowned for world-class diving, the brave-at-heart dive the wall and see first-hand the rare black coral. For those less inclined to go under, bird watchers are well rewarded for their quiet patience.

The opening in 2006 of the Carnival Cruise Line Centre has secured Grand Turk’s future as a cruise-ship tourism destination.

Grand Turk is the second most populated island in the country after the island of Providenciales. Our capital city of Cockburn Town is found on Grand Turk.
